The CME that left the Sun on November 4 triggered a severe geomagnetic storm on November 6. The estimated Kp index reached levels above 8. The IMF pointed strongly southwards for the first 3 hours of November 6, and according to these NOAA maps , this gave a chance for some of the most North European countries to see auroral displays. North Americans were in the front seat and saw auroras as far south as Florida.
