Title: Nobel prize Physics 2021 and climate science
Abstract:
In October 2021, the Nobel prize Physics was awarded to Parisi, Hasselmann and Manabe "for groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex physical systems". This price somehow broke with tradition as the work of Hasselmann and Manabe did not concern fundamental physics but rather climate science that combines scientific knowledge from a wide range of fields. Manabe and Hasselmann, however, advanced climate science in completely different ways. In this presentation, their advancements will be highlighted and framed within the state-of-the-art scientific progress on climate change and climate modeling.
