STCE seminar - Hard X-ray solar flare observations with Solar Orbiter/STIX

Hard X-ray solar flare observations with Solar Orbiter/STIX

by Säm Krucker, visiting scientist (University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switserland, University of California at Berkeley)

Abstract

The hard X-ray imaging spectrometer STIX onboard Solar Orbiter has been operating almost continuously since 2021 and already recorded over 8000 solar flares, including several large flares (three X class flares and several ten’s of M class flares). In this seminar I will give an overview of how the STIX telescope works and will discuss initial scientific results with a focus on joint observations with Solar Orbiter/EUI.
