Seminar - Image Quality Emulator for the ASPIICS instrument of PROBA-3

The last solar physics seminar before the summer break will be given by Noemie Rousselle  on Friday, July 2, 10:30 via webex - see the details below.

Title: Testing of an Image Quality Emulator associated to the ASPIICS instrument of PROBA-3

Abstract: Many parameters control the way images are obtained with the PROBA-3/ASPIICS coronagraph. Particularly, in order to capture the high dynamic range of the solar coronal brightness, up to 3 successive exposures will be taken of the same scene, and tile maps will be used to reduce the volume of the downloaded data by discarding under- or over-exposed pixels in each exposure. Owing to the complexity of this combination of parameters, it is therefore necessary to validate the choice of a given set of parameters before the commands are sent to the instrument. The Image Quality Emulator is used in order to emulate a resulting image with the same observation cycle settings than those entered in the ASPIICS instrument and validate the settings before sending them to ASPIICS. The IQE will also estimate the signal-to-noise ratio to ensure that target features having a given contract with respect to the background corona can be detected with these settings (for example, fine structure in the solar corona, shocks or wave trains).
In this seminar, I will describe the tests, derived from the System Requirement Specifications, that are necessary to confirm that the IQE can accomplish its mission. These tests will be particularly used to validate the tool in the frame of the Flight Acceptance Review of the PROBA-3 Science Operation Centre that will start next September.
