In Oktober 2006 is het "Solar Cycle 24 Prediction Panel" voor de eerste maal bijeen gekomen in Boulder, Colorado. In de commissie zetelen zonnefysici van over de hele wereld die moeten proberen uit te vissen hoe de Zon zich in de toekomst zal gedragen. De expertise en kennis van het SIDC wordt in dit panel vertegenwoordigd door Dr. Ronald Van der Linden.
