Topical Discussion Meeting - ESA SSA SPACE WEATHER SERVICE NETWORK: User Support Test Campaigns
Erwin De Donder (Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy); Robbe Vansintjan (Royal Observatory of Belgium); Alexi Glover (ESA SSA SWE)
Thursday 8/11, 14:00-15:15
MTC 00.10, Large lecture room
The SSA Space Weather Coordination Centre (SSCC) is the focal point for Space Weather user support of the ESA Space Situational Awareness (SSA) Program and offers first line support to end-users. Its activities are gradually expanding as more products and tools are incorporated into the ESA SSA Space Weather Service Network (http://swe.ssa.esa.int/).
To demonstrate and test the Space Weather Services, the SSCC has been running user support campaigns together with end-users whereby delivering tailored, regular dedicated Space Weather bulletins.
With the help of experts including forecasters from the Expert Service Centres (ESCs) for Solar Weather, Heliospheric Weather, Space Radiation, Ionospheric Weather and Geomagnetic conditions, and by tailoring the Space Weather Service content now provided by more than 40 Expert Groups from institutes and organisations across Europe, the SSCC already has provided dedicated notifications for various ESA missions, for airline pilots, commercial spacecraft operators and GNSS service users.
In this meeting we will briefly present some examples from selected campaigns and illustrate the Space Weather Service tailoring through usage of products and tools available in the Network.
Everyone is invited and welcome to exchange ideas and experience on mission support, formats of Space Weather bulletins, and to identify recommendations for improved tailoring towards user needs.
Do not hesitate to also join our two other sessions: "ESA SSA SPACE WEATHER SERVICE NETWORK: Space Weather Portal Training session" will show you how to navigate through the Space Weather Portal if you are new to the Space Weather Service Network and "ESA SSA SPACE WEATHER SERVICE NETWORK: Case study of the September 2017 Space weather events" will bring us back for an interesting look at how the Service Network was used and performed during the 2017 Space Weather events!
