The PECASUS space weather services for civil aviation

The PECASUS initiative will serve as one of the global space weather (SWX) information service centers (SWXC) as specified by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in its State Letter (AN 10/1-IND/17/11) released in June 2017. The countries forming the PECASUS consortium are Finland (Lead), Belgium, UK, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Austria, and Cyprus. The South-African National Space Agency (SANSA) joined to PECASUS in September 2018. Together with the two other global centers - NOAA/SWPC and the consortium by Australia, Japan, France and J apan - PECASUS will provide civil aviation with information on space weather that has the potential to affect communications, navigation and the health of aircraft crew. The official operations of ICAO SWXCs will start on Nov 7 2019.
